Community Pharmacy PenCycle Recycling Scheme

Novo Nordisk have launched their PenCycle recycling scheme to reduce plastic devices entering UK landfills by up to 1.1 million in the next year. To help with this cause community pharmacies can sign-up and participate in this initiative to recycle empty pens, used for diabetes and weight management, in partnership with Novo Nordisk and other partners.

Novo Nordisk are aiming to get pen users to return their empty pens for recycling. They have estimated that 23 million pens are thrown away each year and this recycling scheme enables these pens to be recycled and transformed into useful office furniture.

This scheme is completely free and all materials will be provided for you free of charge by Alliance Healthcare. This scheme will help to reduce waste and support the sustainability agenda of community pharmacy. It will also support the transition of the UK health sector and help achieve the NHS critical environmental targets. The scheme is user friendly and requires minimal workload.
